Weinberg Center film series to feature Woody Allen classic The Weinberg Center's Movie Time at the Tivoli Series takes a look at the ups and downs of modern love with the showing of the 1977 Woody Allen classic "Annie Hall" on Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 7:30 p.m. The film, arguably the finest of the actor/director's career, stars Diane Keaton in the title role opposite Allen's familiar, rather nervous character. While the character may seem similar to others Allen has played, this one is closer to his own life than any before or since. He draws very heavily on his life and career to add depth to the character. It is this attention to detail that makes his role more real and less of a caricature. Couple this element with a hilarious story about two people who meet and fall in love, throw in a little Pygmalion, round out the cast with Tony Roberts, Paul Simon, Christopher Walken and some well-placed cameos by Jeff Goldblum, Sigourney Weaver and Marshall McLuhan, and you have the quintessential Woody Allen film. The film won not only the Best Picture Academy Award in 1978 (one of the few comedy films to win an Oscar), but also took home awards for Best Actress (Keaton), Best Director (Allen) and Best Screenplay. Allen was also nominated for, but did not win, Best Actor in a Leading Role that year. In the spirit of the film, the Weinberg Center will offer reduced admission to everyone who comes in costume for the Woody Allen/Annie Hall look-alike contest. Tickets for "Annie Hall" are $6 each, general admission seating. To purchase tickets, contact the box office at 301-228-2828 (228-2838 TTY), Monday through Friday 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m., and one hour before performances.
